As I walk around my hometown I see a disturbing sight
I take in all I see and something is just not right
I search all around for the cause of my dispair
That is when I notice what is missing from my stare.
Not so long ago one could not avoid a flag flying high
Yet now as I look about I only see the sky
Once this town was filled with the Red White and Blue
But in the passing months it returned to its' old hue.
No longer in the stores do you hear mention of the Towers
It seems we have all lost that patriotic power
It has only been a year since our great land was attacked
Yet people have pushed it aside, set it somewhere in the back.
The time of mourning has not ended
- for the families of the lost
Memories are still fresh for those who paid the highest cost
It is okay to go on, to get back to life once again
But taking down our flag is not the message to send.
In tribute to 9-11, many songs are being played
I am proud to sing them, 'cause I am American made
I still get goosebumps and a big lump in my throat
When I hear the powerful words Toby Keith wrote.
People need to remember, we can never forget
Our country still needs to stand as one, never show regret
Be proud to be an American, let the entire world hear
"We will never forget this day, no matter the year!"
In rememberance of September 11, 2001
